Persian legend says that the heavens owed their blue color to a massive slab of lapis upon which the earth rested.
Lapis lazuli is a magnificent blue stone containing traces of pyrite, calcite, or gold. Deep, solid blue is the most desired variation, but it is extremely rare. In general, lapis lazuli is spotty or striated, which adds to its character- no two stones are exactly the same! Lapis lazuli comes from Afghanistan, Egypt, Canada, Chile, South America, and the United States.
